Presentation 2008-2009
Our new season will be very eventful artistically, lyrically, musically and theatrically. It will be punctuated by a large number of recitals of an infinite variety by very talented musicians and lyrical artists, most of whom were discovered by the T.F.M. In the purest tradition of the T.F.M., we will continue to be a true breeding ground for young talent. If the French Theatre of Music has for its vocation to rediscover, by creating or giving new life to prestigious lyrical works, our musical heritage which has been unjustly forgotten, it has also given itself the task of creating new operas. We will therefore co-produce, with the National Opera of Athens, Cyrano & Roxane, a lyrical poem composed by the greatest Greek composer Stavros Xarhakos, adapted from the work of Edmond Rostand by Jean Claude Carrière and Pierre Jourdan, directed by David Freeman, one of the greatest opera directors. This creation will be one of the highlights of the season.
In prelude to the season, a hunting horn concert will take place on the last weekend of August for the Feast of Hunting and Nature. Then to celebrate the bicentennial of the birth of Napoleon III, for whom the Imperial Theatre was built (but which was finally inaugurated in 1991!), we will produce a prestigious lyrical and symphonic concert with the most talented composers of that era.
The musical theatre will have the honour of inviting young companies in residence and in December, we will host the production of The Court of King Pétaud by Leo Delibes. We will then have the pleasure to welcome for a major concert the Regional Orchestra of Picardie with whom we want to forge stronger ties and see more often on the stage of the Imperial Theatre. To end the season in humour and joy, we will stage again a performance created by the T.F.M. in 1991, Come Back Offenbach, which brings together all the burlesque elements suitable for such an entertainment adapted to the taste of the day. If we can now offer such programming and project ourselves into the future, we owe it to the local authorities, the General Council of the Oise and its Chairman Yves Rome, the Regional Council of Picardie and its President Claude Gewerc. Personally and on behalf of the entire team of the T.F.M., I would like to thank Philippe Marini, Senator Mayor of Compiegne, for his constant and unwavering support.
Bettina CAIGNAULT President of the Imperial Theatre of Compiegne and of the French Theatre of Music.
